Works on site have officially commenced on the Waimarino Luxury Lodge, a highly anticipated development set to redefine luxury accommodation on the shores of Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown, New Zealand.
The Design Group announce works on site have officially commenced on the Waimarino Luxury Lodge, a highly anticipated development set to redefine luxury accommodation on the shores of Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown, New Zealand. This milestone marks a significant step forward in delivering this premium lodge.
Establishing such a property in Queenstown comes with its set of challenges. Andrew Mcintosh Managing Director of The Design Group told LUXURY LIST, "The region's stringent environmental and planning regulations and commitment to preserving its pristine landscapes mean that developers must navigate complex approvals making barriers to entry into this market extremely high.
Waimarino's design, features villas with living roofs and sustainable building materials reflecting the company’s commitment to blending into the landscape. The end product is expected to set a new level of luxury and amenity in the region.
Queenstown as a region continues to see growth in visitor numbers. Queenstown council undertook a research study in conjunction with researchers DOT consulting and finding suggests visitor numbers will grow between 158% and 203% by 2053 putting further upward pressure on both accommodation occupancies and room rates, added Andrew Mcintosh.
The initiation of construction at Waimarino aligns with a broader trend in the luxury hospitality market: the growing popularity of premium lodges and residences tailored to high-net-worth individuals. Discerning travellers are increasingly seeking exclusive experiences that offer privacy, personalised services, and a deep connection to nature. Waimarino is poised to meet those expectations, offering unparalleled views, bespoke amenities, and an intimate setting that caters to the elite market.
Andrew Mcintosh, added, "This surge in demand for luxury accommodations is further evidenced by industry movements such as the Aman Group's recent announcement it is looking to secure $2 billion in funding to assist with its global expansion. The Switzerland-based luxury hotel company aims to develop 23 new hotels and expand its Aman Residences portfolio."
The commencement of Waimarino Luxury Lodge's construction not only highlights the increasing demand for high-end, sustainable retreats but also underscores the challenges and dedication required to bring such visionary projects to life, concluded Andrew.
