Speaking to LUXURY LIST WEEKEND, Peter McMillan said Cheney took design cues and details for the French-Baroque design (with owner’s permission) from a character home from 1905 at 261 North Terrace, Adelaide.

“This home is absolutely irreplaceable, as David sadly passed away in a tragic motorcycling accident 9 years ago,” Peter told LUXURY LIST WEEKEND.

“The spectacular north-facing courtyard has intricate detailing in the ceilings, cornices and impressive columns. Car lovers will revel in the spectacular garage which resembles a grand ballroom with porcelain tiles and mirrored walls.”

David’s passion for the beauty and character of Adelaide’s traditional houses bordered on the obsessive. He oversaw every aspect of design, planning and execution of his outstanding homes with unwavering energy and an uncompromising commitment to quality building. 

The structure of the home is solid masonry, finished with an intriguing blend of the highest quality materials such as French Oak and polished stone flooring, copper roofing, elaborate leadlight and rich stone floors and tessellated tiles, all in symphony with intricate decorative plaster ceiling roses, corbels and cornices all set into impressively high ceilings.
